The first and most obvious thing you need to do when you have made the decision to play the piano, is to find access to one. If you don't already have one, you can find one for an affordable price if you do some smart shopping. Many second hand stores sell old pianos for surprisingly cheap prices, and there are always people selling online. If that isn't an option for you, ask your friends or family members if they know of one for sale. These days, it is difficult to find someone that doesn't have a piano, and there is a good reason for this. The piano is a beautiful instrument that gives many people great joy to play.

Once you have a piano within your reach, you can start learning the feel of it. Start by doing some scales to give you the feel of it if you have never played before. You can get access to scales and how to do them on the Internet. Get used to the sounds and the feel of the keys. You will find yourself eager to learn how to put the notes together to play beautiful music. The next, obvious step is to find yourself a teacher and a program to teach you how to play. These are available everywhere, and you can find great programs online that may be more suitable for your busy lifestyle.

Once you have enrolled in a program that is right for you, you are going to have to practice! You will find that you enjoy practicing more and more as you improve. You will improve quickly, especially at first, and as long as you make realistic goals for yourself, you will find that practicing can be very enjoyable. Practice is important when you are learning anything new, which is why you will need to make that time for yourself. Take it seriously, because at the end, when you have invested a lot of time and energy, you will find yourself able to play quickly and with ease. It will all be worth it.

If you want to learn to play the piano, find a good piano, whether it is yours or a friend's, and start learning how it feels. Discover the range of notes, and their sound.
