Miley Cyrus - TV Star Turned Musician

By Amanda Davis

These days, it's difficult to make it in Hollywood unless you've got famous or influential parents to pull some strings and get you a break. But does this mean these stars don't deserve their fame? Miley Cyrus (nicknamed because she was always smiling!) is the star of the hit Disney show Hannah Montana.

In the show, her character is Miley Stewart, who juggles a dual role as a teenager in high school and an international musical superstar! The TV show is a huge hit because kids all around the world would love to BE Hanna Montana, and this is what Disney counts on.

Miley's Dad is famous country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who had the number 1 hit in 1992 with "Achy Breaky Heart". To prove that she can really sing, Miley has even performed with her dad at some of his concerts!

Miley's first shot at musical fame came when the first Hannah Montana album was released in 2007. The album was a 2 disc set and the second disc was all Miley's solo songs. She even wrote 8 out of the 10 songs on the disc!

Her second album titled "Breakout" was released in 2008 and does not include her persona of Hannah Montana. This album is still aimed at her teenage fans and also attracts the "tweens" who want to feel grown up by listening to her music. She has writing credits for 8 of the 12 songs performed.

After a couple of years starring in Hannah Montana, Miley wanted to focus on her singing talents. Together with Disney, she took her Hannah Montana character on the road, performing live concerts as Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus. These tours in front of millions of fans caused her first album to reach #2 on the Billboard charts and her second album to top the charts at #1!

The tour was called the "Best of Both Worlds" tour, after her hit television theme song. It started on October 18 2007 and ended March 9 2008 during which she played an exhausting 71 shows! It was worth it, though... the tour raked in over $36 million dollars!

Although Miley could easily stay famous and wealthy just acting on the Disney Channel, she wants to develop her musical talent and be considered a serious musician. She has also already contributed a film soundtrack - for Disney's movie "Bolt" including a duet with John Travolta called "I Thought I Lost You."

Miley's desire to become a musician might have been the influence of her dad, but her success is purely down to a great talent and a lot of hard work! - 2361
