God-Given Talents at Alabama Festivals

By Wendell Oswald

God has gifted every individual person He has created with his or her own unique talent. Each one of us, man, woman or child, are equally given talents and skills that are just within us. These skills, when put to good use, are excellent ways to express oneself.

Start early in life if you want to really develop your talents. Our minds and spirits are developed enough at an early age in our life, and it's much easier to learn and absorb as a child. Encourage your child to go into arts and crafts as soon as they're able.

What particular craft should your child do? Only your child can decide what he or she wants to do, as you cannot choose what God has given. Your child will probably show interests at an early age and the best you can do is be vigilant about it. Make sure crayons are easily accessible, and if she or he takes an interest in cooking, make sure to monitor him or her carefully.

Some children may take an interest in crafts that would require a medium that is not exactly child safe. For example, woodcarving is a fulfilling craft, but the carving knives should definitely not be left in the hands of your unsupervised kid. Do not let this be the reason for you to discourage your kid; instead let him or her have a go at it under your ever-watchful eye. You may even need to closely guide your child through the start; so don't be afraid to research the how-to's so you can keep both of you safe.

Once your child becomes sufficiently good at his or her craft, you may encourage him or her to join a craft show. Find a location near you; there are websites that catalog all the upcoming craft shows throughout the year. The extra income could even encourage your child to save up for a rainy day, another good trait that should be developed early on. - 2361
