Lyon Just A Bit Better Than Real Madrid In Champions League Play

Jean Makoun scored early in the second half to give Lyon a hard fought 1-0 victory in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League matchup against Real Madrid. The Spanish champions lost for the third straight time on Lyon's Stade Gerland home field and will now have an uphill battle when the teams meet at Bernabeu to advance to the next round. With the Champions League final slated to be held in their stadium, an exit this early in the competition would be nothing short of an embarrassment for Real Madrid.

Lyon controlled the play in the first half and held a decisive possession advantage. Unfortunately, they didn't get many accurate scoring chances with a number of them going wide or high of the net. Despite Lyon's time of possession advantage in the first half, Madrid actually got the best scoring chances in the first half. Following Makoun's goal just 2 minutes from the start of the second half, Madrid controlled play but could not score the equalizer. For the game, Madrid held a 66% to 34% time of possession advantage.

Real Madrid has won the Champions League title 10 times, but now must rally from this 1-0 deficit when play resumes on their home field in May. Despite their tradition of success, Madrid hasn't made it past the round of 16 for six straight years. Cristiano Ronaldo isn't particularly worried heading into the home half of the matchup:

"In football anything is possible. We've lost here but we have a game at home in which we can repeat what they did here. I'm calm. In this competition you have to suffer. I'm sure that we will give a good answer in the return game and that we will win. The Bernabeu will help us. We will have to give to give it everything from the first minute until the last. The tie is not lost."

Madrid General Director Jorge Valdano added:

"It's been a bad night in general, especially the result. We had ups and downs during the match, but at no moment were we ourselves. The result means we have to really concentrate at the Bernabeu. Lyon barely stepped out of their half in the final minutes, but they made things very difficult for us for a long time, especially in midfield."

Real Madrid will have to do without a couple of starters in the rematch. Marcelo and Xabi Alonso are suspending for the May contest due to bookings in previous contests. - 2361

Dexter Season 5, Episode 1: "My Bad" Recap (Part 2)

Dexter clearly feels some level of guilt at what has happened, knowing that it is his fault for not killing Arthur sooner. However it does not present in the normal way that grief would in most people, leaving him rather adrift. Even the visions of his adopted father and mentor Harry, which normally serve as the closest thing he has to a conscience, seem to have abandoned him. Flashbacks to Dexter's very first date with Rita also show the depth of Dexter's guilt as he remembers the lies he told her right from the very beginning.

When Rita's children, Astor and Cody, return from Disneyland with their grandparents Dexter is forced to break the news to them. Dexter fumbles through it clumsily, even going so far as to resort to the "I'm sorry for your loss" line that the funeral home director had used on him. While most of the family dissolves into grief Astor turns to anger at Dexter.

She blames him for not being there to protect her mother and wishes that it had been him who had died. Dexter takes the notion that they would all be better off without him to heart and begins planning to disappear for good.

Meanwhile Debra goes to Dexter's house to clean up the crime scene, and Quinn comes along to help. Following the clean up Debra breaks down and quickly finds herself in the arms of Quinn and things get very physical very fast from there.

Debra seems to immediately regret it, and practically flees the house. This gives Quinn an excuse to talk to the neighbor who had been crying at the sight of Rita being carried out dead on a stretcher. The neighbor confides in Quinn about the kiss and also says that Dexter punched him over it. Quinn tries to relay this to Laguerta, who responds only with anger, not wanting to deal with this case at all.

Finally Dexter packs his boat with only the essentials, burns his storage container that had served as his killing office, and heads out. In doing so he misses his "interview" with the FBI and friends and family are left standing at Rita's funeral wondering if he will show up. When Dexter stops to fuel up his boat he encounters an aggressive and rather heartless man at the seemingly abandoned fueling station. Dexter follows him into the bathroom and in a fit of rage beats him to death with an anchor. Harry appears to Dexter once again saying that this was "the most human thing" that Dexter has done since Rita dies. - 2361

Packers Pop Struggling Browns

The Green Bay Packers used 21 second quarter points and three Aaron Rodgers touchdown passes to easily dispatch the punchless Cleveland Browns 31-3 on Sunday. Rodgers threw two of his three touchdowns during the second quarter onslaught, adding a fourth quarter tally for good measure. Ryan Grant added--8 yards of rushing and a touchdown in the victory, in which the Packers dominated the statistical battle. Green Bay improved their 2009 NFL record to 4-2, while Cleveland slumped to 1-6.

NFL football betting enthusiasts who laid the -8' with Green Bay as road favorites cashed their tickets with the lopsided victory. Green Bay improved to 4-2 against the NFL pointspread while the Browns dropped to 3-4 against the number.

The Packers upped their intensity early in the game, after quarterback Aaron Rodgers was punched in the face during a scrum. He recounts what happened next:

"One of the linemen came over and said, 'Who was it? We got your back. That means a lot to me and that means a lot to our team."

David Bowens was the perpetrator, though he insisted he was simply playing hard:

"I was just trying to grab anything I had. It wasn't malicious, I was just trying to get a stop. I apologized to him for it. He can call it what he wants to call it, but the refs didn't call it. I'd treat him different if he was passing the ball, that's different. But if he's running the ball, he's a running back. It's called football."

Browns' quarterback Derek Anderson lamented his team's struggles in postgame comments:

"We aren't good right now. That's it. Period. We haven't executed. We haven't done the right things to win ballgames. We haven't run the ball effectively, thrown it where we needed to. We haven't protected up front like we need to and caught it when we need to."

Head coach Eric Mangini sounded a similar tone:

"It's a very disappointing performance across the board. I don't think we played very well. I don't think we coached very well. I thought we were making progress in a lot of areas. I don't think we showed that today -- at all."

The Packers now face a big game next Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings which will feature Brett Favre's first return to Green Bay in a visiting uniform. They'll face the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following week before hosting the Dallas Cowboys on November 15. Cleveland will travel to Chicago for a game against the Bears next week. A Review Of The Hit Film For A Few Dollars More Starring Clint Eastwood

Leone's Dollars Trilogy is without a doubt one of the all time classic series when it comes to all out action, suspense and, well, coolness. The film in the series that is considered a "Great Film" would have to be The Good the Bad and the Ugly, but the absolute coolest of the series is, without a doubt, For a Few Dollars More. Maybe not the best, but certainly the most fun of the entire trilogy, and definitely one to put on your queue the next time you sign into your movie download service.

The movie is really all about the cool little details Leone packed into the film. It starts with a great sequence of Eastwood beating a bounty up with a single hand, and then goes on to Lee Van Cleef selecting one of his dozens of long barrel guns to take out a bad guy, and eventually we get to see one of the coolest western villains of all time.

See, he uses a pocket watch every time he kills someone. It's a musical pocket watch, so he winds it up and lets it play while staring down his adversary. When the music comes to a stop... He draws and fires. Definitely a great villainous ritual for any western baddie to commit to.

Lee Van Cleef plays Colonel Mortimer, who was once a Civil War Hero and has since become a bounty hunter. He plays a sort of a paternal role to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name, teaching him a few things about the craft that he doesn't really know quite yet, while pursuing a somewhat different objective. While The Man With No Name just wants to make a few bucks, Mortimer is hoping to get revenge.

One great scene has the two shooting each other's hats off, and then shooting said hats down the street, as, essentially, a way of chest pounding, showboating, to impress the other. It begins with the two wanting the other to back off their bounty, and ends with the two building a strong partnership that's a lot of fun to watch develop.

There really isn't another film in almost any genre outside of the musical that uses music quite as effectively as this film. The pocket watch plays a little melody written by Ennio Morricone, and in the finale, the melody is layered into an epic orchestrated piece that really builds an incredible amount of tension before anyone draws a pistol and finally fires.

Leone is without a doubt one of the all time greats, and this is one of his funnest films. It's only too bad that his career was cut short before he could finish Stalingrad, his epic WWII film he had plans to create.

The one thing missing is perhaps Eli Wallach. There aren't really any characters in the film with the depth and complex humanity of Tuco in The Good the Bad and the Ugly, but the film is certainly the most fun film of the trilogy. - 2361

A Brief Synopsis Of The Spy Film Movie North By Northwest

Alfie Hitchcock is always remembered as the premier master of suspense, the undefeated master of the plot twist. Yes, he was all that, but he was also much more. He pioneered just about ever genre of modern film. He created the slasher film with Psycho, and in North by Northwest, he essentially created the first all-action blockbuster.

Everybody knows about the airplane chase with the crop duster chasing Cary Grant through the crops. It's a great scene, sure, but only one of several awesome set pieces in the film. The shootout on the face of Mt. Rushmore is an equally jaw dropping piece of film making, but one of the real crowning moments is the drunken chase. Cary Grant is fed glass after glass of booze and then put in a car with no brakes, so he has to flee the badguys while drunk in a car with a cut brake line!

In this day and age, you rarely see this much imagination in action films. There are always exceptions like in the film Shootemup, or some of the Hong Kong classics of recent decades, but regardless, this film has more imagination and intelligence than a dozen other action films put together. Seeing Cary Grant cruising down the street, drunk as a skunk and dodging bullets... It's hard to get so excited over one more car running over yet another fruit stand.

One thing this film has that most action flicks lack would be context. The climactic shootout isn't just a shootout, it's a shootout on the face of Mt. Rushmore. The chase scene with the biplane has Grant running into the crops only to have the plane dust him with pesticide. Layers of challenge were thrust at the hero and it only kept piling up.

Hitch was the master of suspense, but he was also the master of putting his heroes in over their heads, and that's how the action in this film works so well. It's never enough for one problem to exist, but Cary Grant could never solve a problem without creating another one. This just plain made for better action.

It's too bad that most people who make action films these days have copied Hitchcock's tropes and turned it into a formula, rather than actually looking at how and why it worked and tried making their own stories from there, coming up with new and fresher ideas.

The film also boasts one of the most direct love scenes of all time, depicting a train going into a tunnel. When X rated films got big in the seventies, Hitchcock said "I don't know what the big deal is, I already did this with North by Northwest!"

If you haven't seen it yet, the film is one of the all time great all-action movies, and the one that really gave birth to the genre. Without this film, we wouldn't have Arnold Schwarzenegger jumping out of a plan to catch a parachute in Eraser, we wouldn't have the excess of Kill Bill. It's truly with this film that the concept of big, wild action set pieces really began. - 2361

Saints Rout Texans In NFL Preseason Action

Backup Mike Bell made the most of his opportunity, starting in place of Reggie Bush and helping the New Orleans Saints romp to a 38-14 road victory over the Houston Texans. Bush was held out of the game with a strained calf, and Bell filled in admirably rushing for 100 yards in the easy victory.

Bell is a former Denver Broncos starter who has the inside track to lock up the third running back roster spot. After the game, he talked about his big afternoon:

"I just wanted to show the team that I could come here and be a consistent running back. This kind of game was great because it reminds me that I can still play running back. Just to get the carries, and to make the most of this opportunity, that was a real confidence builder."

Saints coach John Payton commended the effort:

"He really has done a really good job. I was encouraged again to see him playing so well."

Texans starting QB Matt Schaub moved the ball fairly well in limited playing time. Houston head coach Gary Kubiak put the loss into perspective:

Backup receiver Miles Austin had another solid game in place of injured starter Roy Williams, with 171 yards receiving and two touchdown grabs. Both teams are now 4-2 on the NFL season.

NFL betting enthusiasts who backed Dallas as -5' home favorite were rewarded with a pointspread victory. The Cowboys evened their mark against the NFL pointspread at 3-3, while Atlanta slipped to 4-2 against the number.

In his postgame comments to the media, Romo gave props to the undrafted Austin for making the best of his opportunity:

"He's definitely a big part of this offense. I'm glad to see all his hard work and effort is paying off."

Dallas owner Jerry Jones commended Romo on his play:

Atlanta has a difficult road challenge ahead as they travel south to face the red hot New Orleans Saints next Monday night. They'll host the struggling Washington Redskins the following Sunday before traveling to Charlotte, NC to face the Carolina Panthers on November 15. You must be attentive to your new tattoo, and keep it as clean as possible to ensure it heals as cleanly as possible so you prevent infection and get the nicest looking tattoo possible.

While the healing stages of a tattoo will be as unique to each individual as there are people on this planet, the tattoo healing process does follow a general pattern. The specifics of each tattoo's healing process is determined by the different skin type of the individual, the positioning of the tattoo on the body, an the techniques of the tattoo artist. These factors can all cause a variance in the healing process from person to person.

You will end up given aftercare instructions by your tattoo artist. These aftercare instructions differ from artist to artist. My recommendation to you is denims . about anything, always return to your tattoo artist before seeking the aid of a doctor. Your tattoo artist can check out your tattoo and tell what to do if there is a problem to correct any healing problems.

Before you remove your bandage, ensure that you wash your hands with soap and warm water, in between the fingers, and under the fingernails. Then dry your hands with a clean paper towel. Avoid the use of any old towel that is laying there, or perhaps a clean towel as lint may be transferred to your hands.

Be sure to have not let a large amount of blood dry on your bandage so that it sticks. Be very, very gentle as you remove your bandage so as not to start the tattoo bleeding again. If you just rip off your bandage, you can mess up the appearance of your new tattoo, and ensure do that, now do you?

Wash your tattoo gently, very gently with anti-bacterial water and soap to clean it. Do not scrub your tattoo, don't use a washcloth, or anything else other than your fingers or hand to clean the tattoo. Do not rub, but "pat" the tattoo as you wash it. Then, when you find yourself finished, pat the tattoo dry with a clean dry paper towel. Or, use clean toilet paper even, without any paper towels on hand.

Let your tattoo air dry for 15 minutes or so. This will promote healing.

While it is healing it is crucial not to do the following things or you may damage your tattoo:

- Do Not scratch your new tattoo

- No swimming, hot tubs or baths the first two weeks after getting your new tattoo

- Do Not shave the tattooed area not less than 30 days following the tattoo procedure

- Only touch your tattoo with clean hands, do not let others touch your tattoo

MMA Flashback: Bunny Beatdown As Strikeforce Heads To The Playboy Mansion

True, every time the STRIKEFORCE cameramen got a shot of him with the comment that "there's Hef looking on" it appeared as if he was taking the opportunity to go through his mail or attend to some paperwork. Had he bothered to look up every now and then he would have enjoyed a spirited night of fighting that may have been short on significant matchups but wasn't lacking for entertainment value.

STRIKEFORCE had to scramble on this show, as injuries changed the main event several times. It was initially a non-title matchup between former UFC bad boy Renato Babalu Sobral and promotion light heavyweight champion Bobby Southworth. Eventually, both sides of the main event changed several times before settling on a matchup between former BoDog middleweight champion Trevor Prangley and Anthony Ruiz.

The Prangley/Ruiz contest was a one sided affair, with the South African using his strength to repeatedly takedown his opponent and control him on the ground. Ruiz had the edge in the standup game, but Prangley avoided trouble by keeping the fight on the ground to earn the victory.

The main event was nominally the US debut of World Victory Roads Kazuo Misaki aka The Grabaka Hitman taking on well traveled veteran Joe Riggs. After a first round that was tactical to the point of being tedious, the second round brought fireworks en route to a controversial stoppage. After each man suffered a knockdown Misaski pressed his advantage with a furious ground and pound attack, and after about 30 seconds referee Josh Rosenthal waved off the fight awarding Misaki the TKO victory.

After the stoppage, Riggs immediately jumped to his feet in protest. The crux of his argument was that he was defending himself and that Misakis blows were doing little damage. He did have something of a case, as the replay showed that he was covered up and absorbing most of the blows to his gloves.

Earlier in evening, STRIKEFORCE lightweight champion Josh Punk Thompson made short work of a game but overmatched opponent in Ashe Bowman. To his credit, Bowman figured that he had to take the fight to the champion and went on the attack. Thompson then put on a counterpunching clinic nailing Bowman with a straight right followed by a flurry of uncontested punches that sent the young fighter to the canvas for a quick stoppage.

The most impressive submission of the night was courtesy of PRIDE vet Mitsuhiro The Endless Fighter Ishida. Justin Wilcox was the unlucky recipient on a beautiful submission when he attempted to take Ishida down and almost too fast to see the Japanese fighter slapped on an armbar for the quick tapout. The KO of the night had to go to Terry Martin, who appeared to be on his way to a unanimous decision loss to Cory Devela until the third round when he knocked out his opponent with a sneaky straight left. - 2361

Taking A Look At Mental Telepathy

The term 'mental telepathy' is misleadingly broad. It essentially means the direct communication of thoughts between people without using the basic five senses. There is a huge difference, however, between having a creepy feeling that someone is watching you and being able to pick the plans for a nuclear reactor out of an unsuspecting scientist's mind. Mental telepathy covers a huge range of abilities from very basic to fairly complex. This article will attempt to explain the different levels of mental telepathy.

KINESICS COMMUNICATION:

Whenever two people communicate without speaking, using body language or facial expressions instead, it is considered non-verbal communication or kinesics. Some people are able to communicate simple messages while others are able to communicate entire conversations using kinesics. You may have experienced this when giving looks to a cohort in a secret plan of action. Achieved easiest and most accurately between people who know each other well, kinesics involves knowing what the other person is thinking by non-verbal gestures or kinesics.

This may not count as mental telepathy, as the two people are using their senses to communicate, just not verbally and this is correct. However, mental telepathy plays a role, because their minds are more attuned to each other because of extended exposure to the way the others mind may think and some predictability comes into play, so there is a sort of mental connection. Two people that know each other well enough to understand more subtle body language, or have created nonverbal signals to communicate, might be argued that it is not be classified as mental telepathy.

EMOTIONAL TELEPATHY:

Empathy is the ability to recognize, perceive, or directly experience the emotions of others. Some people are very poor at this, and others are very good at this, being able to mentally 'put themselves in another's shoes' and understand how they must be feeling. Empathy can be increased with training and practice. Actors, for example, are able to imitate the emotions of others, even to the point of being able to make themselves spontaneously laugh or cry.

Most people have experienced 'sympathetic pain'"feeling another person's pain as if it were your own. For example, after witnessing someone close to you break their arm, you may experience an uncomfortable feeling or even an ache in your arm, even though you know it's fine. Similarly, when someone close to you is experiencing an overwhelming emotion, such as joy, grief, or depression, you may feel an echo of the same emotion inside you. Finally, there is the phenomena of long distance empathy. In this case, a person suddenly knows"they FEEL it"that someone close to them is in danger, has been hurt, or is in pain, even though they are not near the person at the time.

There are some skeptics and psychologists who scoff at these kind of incidents and call them the work of an overactive brain. In certain cases they may have a point because we can see the injury and the hurt. However in cases of long distance empathy where a person doesn't even know that his loved one is injured or hurt, then they don't have an explanation about why a person who cannot even see the other person can feel the pain.

CONCRETE CONCEPTS:

This is the thought transference of concrete symbols and objects between two minds. Mental telepathy at this level must by necessity move beyond the regular five senses, and often requires a designated sender and receiver, intense concentration, training, and practice.

The simpler the concept, the easier it is to communicate through thought alone. For example, a color or shape may be easier to convey than an animal.

Zener cards often used in mental telepathy test are an example of this principle. Simple, concrete black-and-white symbols (a circle, square, star, plus sign, and three wavy lines), gives even a random guess a 20% chance of being right. On the other hand, a shared, known, limited set of concrete symbols may increase the coordination of the thoughts between sender and receiver. A success rate of 50% or higher (which have happened) can not be explained away by simple statistics, but may indicate a level of mental telepathy, instead.

ABSTRACT CONCEPTS

This level of mental telepathy involves more advanced abstract concepts than shapes and colors. Here people communicate ideas, values and actions, which is quite tough the success rate is quite low. Telepaths seldom achieve this level and the ones who do are pretty rare.

Some animals appear to communicate, and science is not able to explain how. Telepathy shouldn't be ruled out. At this level, such animals would be using abstract concepts, albeit very basic concepts. Due to the nature of animal brains lacking prefrontal lobes, such ideas would probably not go beyond simplistic impulses like 'hungry', 'thirsty', 'horny', or 'danger!'

While humans may have once been capable of telepathy, as the species evolved and developed language, it was no longer needed as a form of communication. With the right stimulation humans may be able to call upon this dormant ability that includes abstract communication of ideas. Mental telepathy could be used to communicate, without the need for the use of the five senses.
