Wedding Photography through Candid Moments

By Philip Rogers

At a wedding, it is very important to have a photographer to record the moments for posterity's sake. Years later, you can look at the photos with your partner and reminisce about the wedding. The photos can also be shared with your children and friends and will help tell a story of how it occurred. A candid style of wedding photography will make the storytelling and remembering more personal and endearing. Candid photography captures the essence of the event and records the human side of it. Unlike staged poses, candid photography gives the opportunity to achieve photographs when the subjects are in their natural mood, giving a more natural feel. Candid wedding photography captures the moments in the wedding at their most real.

It is important to choose the suitable photographer to capture the candid wedding photographs. Candid photos use a more narrative method in contrast to traditional photography, which is dependent on posed or staged settings. Couples may favor only traditional photos; others like only candid wedding photography, while others still opt for the combination of both traditional and candid wedding photography. For candid photography, it should ideally have experience in photojournalism and has the ability to photograph a wide range of subjects in various settings.

In candid wedding photography, the photographer aims to form a story via the pictures taken. One example is when candid photos are obtained in a sequential manner, starting from the preparation of the wedding to the wedding ceremony and until leaving the reception. There are several chances for excellent photos to be captured at all times during any point in the wedding. Candid photos record any moments that you may normally miss, even those that may be very memorable. Weddings are full of activity and photographable opportunities are numerous.

It is important that before the wedding, you should discuss with your photographer your vision for the candid pictures and what you would like the photographer to emphasize. Explain the kinds of moments you would like him to focus on, but do not put a limit to the opportunities where he can photograph. Candid images are real representations of the wedding, so even if some light editing may be required it is not needed to completely retouch the pictures.

Candid photography is an excellent means of capturing the fun and the real moments and the behind-the-scene moments of your wedding. From the preparation to the reception, candid photography can guarantee that memorable situations are captured and that a story will be formed from the captured pictures. Through candid photography, you can tell the story to family and friends about your wedding in a more human, more personal, and more realistic means.
