Online Bingo: Why So Popular? Learn Everything About This Fun Recreation

By Jacquiline Barges

Bingo is a luck and chance game of unknown origins. It has been a popular game amongst older generations for many years, its popularity being mostly due to the opportunity it affords to socialize in relaxed environment. The rules are simple, and games generally advance at a pace that allows for casual conversation amidst play. The game is now available online, with chat rooms recreating the social side of the game. Worldwide, online Bingo is worth nearly a billion dollars. "But online bingo - why so popular?" you may wonder. There are a number of reasons why this simple game has gained favor since going global with the world wide web.

First of all, what is this game?

Bingo players start with a ticket that has a collection of numbers, between one and a hundred. Up the front of the room is a large barrel or sack filled with numbered balls. These contain all of the numbers up to 100 and are all jumbled up together. One of these balls is selected at a time, and the number on it is read out. The players all check their tickets, and if they have that number written on their ticket, they mark it off with a special pen called a "dabber" or a "dauber." The aim is to get five numbers all in a line, then say "Bingo!" or something similar to make yourself head. The first person to do this is the winner of that game. Technology has meant that instead of balls, bingo halls can use what's known as a Random Number Generator, which is a small electronic device that comes up with the numbers. The online games are completely virtual.

Why have people turned to online bingo?

Being online means that bingo is accessible twenty fours a day, seven days a week. Players don't have to wait till bingo day rolls around, or cut precious time out of their day traveling to and from the bingo hall. This can be very important for people whose busy time schedules barely leave room for family, let alone the peaceful relaxation of a game of bingo. Of course there are those who are less extroverted and prefer to interact as they choose within the medium of the chat room. Others just like having the comfort of being in their own home, their own space.

A big reason for some is the ban on public smoking in many countries. Statistics reveal that many bingo players regularly smoke, and these people enjoy the freedom of being able to indulge their habit at home whilst they play.

Benefits of playing online

For starters there are literally hundreds of websites out there to choose from, so you are almost guaranteed to find a site that you like. Also, the chat rooms on these web sites pose a fantastic opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Most players are from the UK, or from the US, Canada and Sweden. However, you might meet someone from Australia, Europe or Asia, or somewhere else too. - 2361
