The Six Studio Albums Of Michael Jackson's Solo Career

By Marvin Markus

During his solo career as an adult (which began in 1979) Michael Jackson released a total of six studio albums up through his untimely death in 2009. In this article you'll find a short review of each of those six albums.

Off the Wall - This is the album that made Jackson a star on his own (without the rest of the Jacksons.) "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You" were the first two tracks on the album and they were also both #1 singles. "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" was actually the only song on the album written by Jackson himself.

Thriller - This album made Michael Jackson the biggest pop star in the world. It's still the biggest selling album in the history of the world (and the biggest selling album in the United States as well.) It included two more #1 hits ("Billy Jean" & "Beat It") and an amazing seven top 10 singles. Since the album only had nine total songs that means all but two of it's songs were top 10 hits.

Bad - This album included an amazing five #1 singles: "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Man in the Mirror," & "Dirty Diana." It also featured other hits like "Smooth Criminal" which has gone on to be one of his best loved songs.

Dangerous - Dangerous was actually his biggest selling album as far as first week sales. It's also second (only behind Thriller) as far as total worldwide album sales with over 32 million copies sold in the world. That being said, it only had one #1 hit ("Black or White") which after an album with five #1 hits (Bad) that was something of a disappointment.

HIStory - This album sometimes gets forgotten because it's a double album and one half of it is actually a "greatest hits" album, but the other half is a proper studio album which contains many memorable songs such as "Strangers in Moscow" and "They Don't Really Care About Us" along with the #1 hit "You Are Not Alone."

Invincible - While I do agree with the critics that Invincible is Michael Jackson's worst studio album, I disagree with just how lowly many people rate this album. I think it has quite a few redeeming moments that make it worthy of a listen. "Break of Dawn," "Butterflies," "Speechless," & "Threatened" are among my favorites. - 2361
