A Rising Star from Canada - Celine Dion

By Matt Ryan

Celine Dion, originally from Canada, is one of the most famous female artists of all time. Recording both English and French albums, her songs constantly hit the Top 40 charts. Millions of her albums sell out, on a regular basis, across world.

While headlining in Las Vegas, nearly every performance was sold out. Her talent, and magical vocals, has captured the hearts of many adoring fans. She puts on a show that not only speaks to your soul, but also entertains your visual senses. The costumes are phenomenal and choreography is unspeakably impressive. The combination of her moving vocals and the performance that she so passionately displays, continually captures the attention of new and existing fans.

Celine Dion was born in March of 1968 in Quebec, Canada; she had 13 siblings; and began writing her own songs by the time she was 12 years of age. Her mother and brother produced a home recording of Celine performing her very first song. Celine's brother was so moved by the performance that he mailed it to Rene Angelil, a name he got off one of the records they had at home.

After listening to the recording, Angelil was impressed, and requested a live performance from Celine. He was so moved, by her performance that he promised to help make a name for her. Angelil did as promised and produced Celine's first two French albums. At the age of 15 she was presented with the French Gold record, this was a first in Canadian history.

In order for Celine to move forward, with her career, she needed to undergo a makeover. During this time she attended school to learn English, in order to enter into the American Market. In 1988 Celine was on tour in Europe. During this time, her and Angelil fell in love, but feared the consequences of a relationship. Surprisingly, Celine's fans supported her and nothing but joy came from her relationship with Angelil.

Disney approached Celine, in 1991, to perform the theme song for "Beauty and the Beast". The following year, Celine not only won a Grammy and an Oscar, but also produced more albums, and a handful of her songs made it on the Top 40 charts.

Five years later, in 1997, Celine won two more Grammys; Album of the Year and Best Pop Album. This is the same year that she performed "My Heart Will Go On" for the soundtrack of "Titanic". This song, alone, shared - with the world - what a magical voice Celine truly has.

In 1999, Celine took a small break to nurse her husband back to health while he was being treated for cancer. In 2001, Celine and Angelil became the proud parents of a gorgeous son.

She is currently on tour, which will be ending at some point this year. This tour, known as "Taking Chances", has already hit the charts for one of the top grossing tours of 2008. - 2361
