Singers: Keep Your Voice Healthy

If you value your singing voice, be certain that you take good care of your voice. The health of your singing voice is also associated with the health of your body. The correct posture and breath support are a couple of key factors that protect your vocal cords from damage.

Talented singers with a full, melodius voice will want to be cautious to avoid illnesses that can impact the quality of the voice. The drinks to avoid or definitely limit the intake of are drinks containing caffeine such as coffee and try to avoid any alcohol. These two drinks can dehydrate and dry out the body consumed in excess. So you know that you should keep your voice in fine condition by hydrating your body with water, but also realize that the use of proper breathing is just as crucial. You know by now that you should avoid any caffeine drinks, but there are particular foods that a lot of people love to eat that you should keep away from. Eating spicy foods for example, can create stomach problems which can force acid pushing up through the throat area that can affect the voice. Cigarette smoke or smoky rooms can wreak havoc on a singer's voice causing throat inflammation and dryness, which is not good for the vocal cords or throat.

Also besides avoiding smoking, spicy foods try to stop using a mouthwash as it contains alcohol and other chemicals that can irritate your throat. But if you wish to use a mouthwash use a salt-water solution. Don't forget as well as resting your voice it is equally important that you rest your body, because if you ever have the feeling of fatigue this can also affect your voice.

So if you are not getting enough sleep and rest, your vocal cords will reveal your fatigue if you try to sing. If you add exercise and a well balanced diet to your daily routine, it will reflect in the health of your throat and vocal cords.
