How to Take a Great Photograph

By SFXsource

Snapping photos is easy and enjoyable and with just a little background knowledge you can take fantastic pictures right away. Any type of camera, such as Polaroid, digital, or SLR, can be capable of taking incredible pictures. Photography is a great hobby, and you will enjoy taking pictures of friends and family, or your travels. Just follow some of the these tips to begin.

1. You'll first need to pick a subject matter. Do you want to photograph people, animals, landscapes, food, or nature? Remember to be creative and use your imagination.

2. Experiment photographing that subject from different distances. Try backing up to include the surrounding area, and then get in real close. You will be surprised at how different each shot looks.

3. What does your subject look like when you are looking up at it from the ground, or down on it from a high spot? Try shooting from different heights to create different images as you may be pleasantly surprised.

4. Do you always put your subject in the middle of the frame? Try putting the main focal point in different areas of the frame, or even a corner. Your photos will definitely start looking more professional.

5. Be aware of color, texture, and patterns. Look for details that others may have missed.

6. Because photography is about capturing light (photo = light, graphi = to write), the best times to photograph are mornings and evenings. When the sun is low in the sky (dawn and dusk), you get great shadows. Photograph at different times of day to see which type of light suits your subject matter.

Don't forget that the most important part of photography is to have fun. There are countless photography books on every subject, so find photographers and books that inspire you. Also, browse photo magazines to get ideas! The more you photograph, the better you will get.
