Two very popular methods of receiving TV are using satellite dishes and antennas. These are connected to your television and allow you to receive different channels. If you install your own satellite dish and antenna then you will no doubt save you quite a lot of money.

There are a number of important things which you must consider before you choose whether you want to use a satellite dish or antenna. This will make it easier to install your antenna or satellite dish when you get around to it. If you are willing to install your dish or antenna by yourself then you can save quite a substantial amount of money. It should only take a couple of hours at most. It is very important that you make sure you install it correctly.

Choosing the Installation site

You need to choose where you are going to install your antenna or satellite dish. You must remember that dishes need a clear line of sight so that they can receive the information clearly. You should be careful to select a location which is not sheltered.

You need to also choose a place which is not near electrical lines, you should also select somewhere which is easily accessible for maintenance. If mounting it on the roof then you must make sure that it?s not going to cause you any problems with your roof.

Buy the right equipment

There are normally only three separate components which you will need to get your antenna or dish connected properly. You need a dish or antenna, a cable known as a coax and a receiver which translates the signal for your television. Make sure that you have a long enough coax cable so that the dish can be connected to the receiver. In order to install the dish you will need a drill and screws so that you can install the antenna or dish.

Know where to aim your dish

You should point the dish in a specific direction so that you can get a clear signal. If you point it in the wrong direction you may end up picking up foreign TV or worse, nothing at all. Most kits will include a compass to help determine which angle to point the dish at.

Be safe

When installing a dish or antenna you will be going on your roof, you need to be safe and cautious so that you don?t risk falling. If the roof is wet then you shouldn?t go on it until it?s dry because it will be very slippery. If you?re using a ladder make sure that it is in good working order.

When you install a satellite dish or antenna there are some important things that you need to consider before starting to install it. By making sure you have all of the equipment that you need before you start then you can save yourself a lot of headaches. If you take time installing the dish properly then it will last for a very long time. You also won't want to block your own view through your windows.
