Live Bands Provide Great Entertainment

By Gabrielle Allan

As you plan your special event, you will be making decisions about everything from the type of food to serve to the color of the tablecloths. The entertainment you choose is just as important as the meal you serve, which is why you should explore the benefits of hiring a live band for your wedding or party. You do have the option of playing recorded music or hiring a professional DJ, but live bands playing live music add a touch of class and can be that extra special touch that make your event a memorable one.

While playing recorded music is both simple and low in cost, it does not add anything to the ambiance of a special event. It is a simple matter to put together a list of your favorite songs and them play them on a burned CD or from your portable music player, but where is the pizazz in that? For an informal party at home or a backyard pool party, playing your favorite music form your personal collection is a great idea. But for your wedding or anniversary party, an event that you will remember for the rest of your life, you want to do whatever you can to make the event especially special.

There are many professional DJ services that you can hire to play music at your event, but if you are looking to create a certain atmosphere, this is not an ideal choice. When you hire a DJ, you select a genre of music that you like, perhaps request a few specific songs, and then leave the entertaining up to the DJ. What you usually end up with is a play list of generic party songs and a DJ who reads from a scripted document of special event phrases and outdated jokes. If you prefer to bring elegance and class to your event, hiring a live band is a great decision.

A major benefit to hiring a live band is that the people in the band will work cooperatively with you to tailor a set list that will create the perfect atmosphere. There is an appropriate musical style for each portion of a party; while your guests are eating, for example, you want them to be able to chat and visit with the other guests at the table. In this case, your band can play softly and at a lower tempo in order to create a conversational environment. On the other hand, once dinner is over and the time is right to get everybody up and dancing, the band can pick up the pace and play some upbeat, dance tunes to get the party started.

One of the major benefits of live musicians over DJ services or recorded music is that the band you hire will actually want to entertain and please your guests with their performance. True musicians want to play and perform to the best of their abilities, and feel a connection to the songs that they play. DJ services do not share that soulful relationship with the music that they play; they create a play list, hit play, and that is the extent of their performance. Musicians, on the other hand, are sharing their talents with you and your guests, and they want you to enjoy and appreciate the music that they create.

A live musical performance can help create the ambiance that you are looking for, much more so that a DJ and their traveling stereo system. If you are holding a classic, elegant reception, then having a live string quartet playing in the background is much more special than piping Mozart in through a PA system. Live bands create a sophisticated air, and it is hard to resist the urge to get up and dance when there are live musicians playing for you.

If you decide to hire a live band for your event, all you have to do is get online and conduct a simple internet search. There are numerous music booking sites out there where you can enter in your location, type of event, and the type of music you want to hear and the site will create a listing of all of the musicians in your area. You can check out photos and hear samples of their music, then contact the band directly through the information given on the booking site.

You can also seek out live bands by heading out for an evening and taking in live performances at the clubs and restaurants in your area. If you hear a band that you like, approach them after their set to see if they are available for you to hire. However you decide to choose your band, its best to try and see them perform in a live show so that you can see how they interact with the crowd, how professionally they look and behave, and, most importantly, how well they can play. - 2361
