A Synopsis Of Terminator Two

By Alyson Sweeney

James Cameron is back in the headlines thanks to Avatar, the new flick which supposedly revolutionizes cinema in much the same way as Terminator 2 did years before. That actually remains to be seen. If Avatar is still remembered in twenty years as a turning point in American film, that's when it'll get to be mentioned alongside Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Watch or rewatch it the next time you want to download movies.

T2 is remembered as a major stepping stone for the technology of special effects, alongside Jurassic Park, but people forget that the special effects were not the point of the film, that the effects were there to help the story, not the other way around. Cameron makes great steps in terms of special effects, but the effects are always, always there to serve the story, and not for their own sake.

If you haven't seen it yet, then... You must have been frozen in ice in the year 1991. Hello! Welcome to the 21st Century! No flying cars yet, sorry, but at least you can download movies online, so you have no excuse not to catch up on the classics of the last twenty years. If you're wondering what Terminator 2 is about, remember Terminator 1? Okay now imagine that the Terminator is back here to protect Sarah Connor's son this time from a liquid metal Terminator who wants to kill him. There, now you're caught up.

T2 really does take some incredible steps in terms of special effects, though. The T-1000 is one of the all time great special effects creations in film history. Twenty years later, it still stands as one of the most impressive characters ever created with CGI, every bit as believable as Gollum or Doctor Manhattan. A lot of new technology was developed for the film, and that technology was coupled with artistry to create a really cool arsenal of effects.

The story is actually quite pure, in spite of the elaborate set up. The movie just focuses on the emotional content, the drama and the action. It uses a sci-fi premise, but that really is just a set up. The movie is all about what happens after the time traveling robots arrive, it's not about complex plot lines or anything like that.

Hopefully, you've seen this movie by now. In fact, it'd be sort of strange if you hadn't. But, if you haven't, don't you think it's high time you do? If you have internet under that rock where you're living, you've got no excuse not to watch this movie already.

Even if you have seen it, it's been about twenty years since it was released and now they keep pumping out all these sequels, the television series and so on, and... None of this stuff is as good as T2 was in the first place, so it may be high time for a refresher course so that everyone can try to remember that Terminator was about characters, not heady, over complicated plotlines.

It's not just a classic as an action flick, it's actually a classic regardless of genre. Not just as sci-fi or as a shootemup, it's one of the best American movies made in the last twenty or thirty years, and some say one of the best films ever made, period. At the very least, it's one of the best sequels ever created, and it's never a bad time to go ahead and watch it again. - 2361
