Tribal Celtic Tattoo Designs

By Luke J. Slyvester

How often have you seen a tribal tattoo upon someone who is walking down the street? Or looked through a tattooists designs and seen a huge array of different tribal tattoo designs available to you. This is because the tribal tattoo design alone is quite popular, but as part of a piece, tattooists often find it is even more popular.

Tribal tattoos used to be specifically that. They were used by many different tribes in their initiations, rites, and everyday life. The tattoos allowed other members who had left, or those of another tribe, to see who belonged to what tribe. Although that use is not valid in our modern western society, tribal tattoos are still popular.

There are other reasons why these tribal tattoo designs were also used, and this is for certain occasions. In some tribes, a right of passage, such as the changing from childhood to adulthood, is marked by a tattoo, showing that they are now man or woman, rather than boy or girl. There are also occasions when these are actually wedding tattoos. Usually, a wedding tattoo will be a tribal style band, which denotes everlasting love and fidelity.

Now? Perhaps the most popular form of tribal tattoo which is now chosen by people is the Celtic tribal tattoo designs. More specifically, these are tattoos and symbols which Celtic Druid practitioners are known to, or thought to have worn.

Obviously, not everyone who now sports a Celtic tribal tattoo design is a druid. But once, these tattoos were steeped in a tradition of magic and ritual. The tattoos were said to have hidden meanings and powers, actually the key to a lot of druidic spells.

As is the lure with the Celtic tribal tattoo design of the Celtic cross. A cross which is entirely made from intricately woven lines, this is perhaps the most popular tattoo design of modern day. - 2361
