Improving Your Photographs

By David Peters

With all of the advancements in digital technology, taking and improving photographs is quick and simple. The photo-mat is a thing of the past with the image of our pictures being available in seconds on our digitals camera's screen. Even with all of the advancements in cameras, pictures are still not always free of mistakes. Finding ways to improve photographs remains a goal of photographers but the means of achieving this is much different today. Now we can correct our photographs both old and new through digital imaging software that can be done easily by anyone wishing to enhance and improve their photos.

Adobe Photoshop is one of the best digital imaging software programs available today for improving photographs. This is the software most used by graphic designers, artists and photographers. You don't have to be in the professional field however to reach the same professional results provided by Photoshop. All you need is the aspiration to better your photos along with a good tutorial guide to reach all of the potential this software offers.

Here are a few problems almost always seen in pictures:

Blemishes and Wrinkles - Everyone wants to have a little bit of character, but not in the form of blemishes or wrinkles! Of course everyone wants to look young and fresh in their photograph, but unfortunately point and shoot cameras oftentimes magnify the flaws in our faces. Photoshop can quickly take care of those age lines, uneven skin tones and unsightly blemishes as if they were never there. Everyone will be thrilled to appear 10 years younger.

Closed or Half-Closed Eyes - The camera flash can prove to be a problem for some people. The camera always seems to catch their eyes closed. In the past this would be the ruin of a photograph. Today however, that is not the case. Photoshop can correct the closed or half closed eye with ease. A good tutorial will walk you step by step through the process to a picture with everyone's eyes shining in the final image.

Unwanted people or objects. A perfect photograph ruined by some guy who happened to appear out of nowhere just when you clicked the camera. Great! Don't despair though, you can have him removed and be gone just like he never even appeared in the first place. Improving photographs with Photoshop by using a few tools can be done quickly and easily with the right tutorial.

Exposure Problems - Under exposure and your photo appears dark. Over exposure and you lose detail in the photo. Corrections of this type are a bit more complicated to undertake especially if the exposures are extreme, but they are not impossible. With a good tutorial you can bring out the details of your photo and greatly improve its quality.

Some of the greatest and most memorable moments in our lives are captured with photographs. People for years to come will have these photos to look back at and remember those who came before them and relive a small piece of history. Improving these photographs will enhance not only our own enjoyment seeing of these moments in time but also those in the generations ahead.
