The Jackson Warrior Electric Guitar

By Vincent Roarden

When the 1990's began, the Jackson Guitar's superstat design was known all over the rock n roll universe. It was a drastic and radical design that was copied by all other guitar producers like Fender, Gibson, Ibanez and Kramer.

You may be surprised to know that the original founder of Jackson Guitar didn't design the famous Warrior Guitar. Instead, Grover Jackson left the company in 1989 and it was a man named Mikey Wright who was left to design the new and creative Warrior. The new design was radically different to the superstrat design which had made Jackson Guitar famous and therefore was a risky adventure.

Released to the public in 1990, the Warrior was a markedly different design to the Jackson's previous Dinky and Soloist designs. Instead, this guitar was obnoxious and aggressive - in no way pretty. It had 5 points that stood out and was very much the heavy metal's guitar.

Two versions were produced in 1990. The Warrior was made in the USA and the Warrior Pro was made in Japan. Both versions were the same, except that the Pro was made in a foreign country.

Jackson offered the following paint colors on the Pro models: Snow White Pearl, Ferrari Red, Pearl Yellow, Candy Blue and Midnight Black. The USA models offered a bigger options base: Fire Crackle, Snow White, Candy Red, Metallic Black, Eerie Dess Swirl, Pearl Yellow, Pearl White, Midnight Black, Tie Die, Metallic Electric Blue and Ferrari Red.

In 2001, a decade since the original Warrior was produced, Jackson re-released the Warrior model. They retail for about $1,200.

The new American made Warrior comes with Floyd Rose tremolos and Duncan pickups but no longer has the active circuitry, slanted pick up and slanted fingerboard of the previous Warrior. The models built overseas are bolt designs coming with all sorts of pick ups that Jackson makes. These overseas design retail for about $400.

Despite the minor changes to the original design, these new Warriors are on par with the original models and the quality of the manufacturing is excellent.
