Music Jukebox - Special Gifts for Special People

By Robert Allen Byrnes

Have you noticed lately that everyone seems to be talking about the "good old days"? Almost every industry is going retro. There's retro furniture and accessories, music jukeboxes, cars, jewelry, fashion, art. Even the music and food industries are going retro. This trend has been explained as a feeling of nostalgia for a return to the age of innocence, perhaps to escape the stress of a culture seeking to cope with our technology explosion. Everybody seems to have a sentimental yearning or longing for something past.

That's why Nostalgia gifts are so relevant for the times. Whether it's the sno cone machine, the juke box, the cotton candy or pop corn machines, they all trigger that special sense of nostalgia that brings back the feelings of the security of our childhood home and the warmth and love of those no longer with us. Remember how you felt when your parents surprised you with your first puppy; the trips to the circus with its cotton candy; your first dance with the juke box playing those romantic songs and you were the "belle of the ball"; your first baseball game ending in your spectacular catch; your first kiss?

It's amazing how certain colors, smells, a song, a picture of a childhood toy can evoke such intense nostalgia, a feeling of homesickness for what used to be. You experience once again the serenity and tranquility of your uncomplicated life of simpler times, when families had time to enjoy being together, singing, playing that music jukebox, toasting marshmallows, swinging under an old oak tree. You bask in the pleasure and peace of reliving those times if only for a moment.

Maybe you haven't been turned on to Nostalgia gifts yet, but supposing you opened a birthday or Christmas present and there was something you never expected to see again - a vintage music jukebox, straight out of yesterday! That's when you experience nostalgia to the max -and each time you walk past it, it's nostalgia all over again!

Do you remember how often birthdays were so troublesome for you because you never knew what this particular person wanted or liked? Remember how difficult it was to get the gift that would be sure to please? And I suspect that person would be a male member of the family, a husband or father. I was always so disappointed when my father's face would reflect disappointment with his gift. I think women are much easier to buy for, don't you?

From my personal observation, most fathers are not like most mothers-you ask them what they would like and often they either don't know what they like, want or need, or they don't take the time to think about it and simply pass it off or you to decide. They expect you to be a miracle shopper and find what they didn't know they wanted, in the exact size, shape and color they weren't able to tell you when you asked!

Well, let me tell you something that most all dads and husbands would be very happy to receive for any holiday, whether it be Christmas, birthday or Father's Day, and that is a Nostalgia gift; a gift that would escort his thoughts back down memory lane taking him back to this childhood or teen years or even early marriage life.

I guarantee he would be pleased really pink with something like a music jukebox, a neon sign, a special electronic gift, or some other unique gift. Because it wasn't the usual tie or belt, some kind of shirt or shaving lotion, he would feel really special. With the men folk uniqueness seems to be a key element for satisfaction-and that's what you are looking for in a gift.
