Learn More About The Performing Art Form Of Dance

By Peggy Ryersen

Dance, if you want to put a description to it, is simply a form of art, as well as sport. It can be described as rhythmic body movements done gracefully to music. Dance is also used as an emotional release or sometimes used in spiritual or social interactions. Included in this art form are body movements meant to express ideas in a silent non-verbal way. This can also be seen among animals, bees being just one example. There are even some sports that fall under one type or form of partnership dance, such as figure skating, synchronized swimming and even martial arts if the training is done as a synchronized dance in a sport setting.

So from being just a functional movement coming from through the ages, a dance form is going to depend upon the aesthetic, social, moral, artistic and cultural settings and constraints put upon the expression on such competitive and even ceremonial performing art forms. This can be the reaction of a story or a hunt, or the expression of an emotion in a courtship ritual, being enacted in the non-verbal dance form.

Classical dance also has its place in various forms of dance. This includes dances such as the tango, waltz or ballroom dancing and there are even still a lot of competitions being held that focus on those classical dance forms. Those interested in careers involving dancing can choose from many options such as working in dance companies, becoming a choreographer or teacher others dance styles. If you want to teach others, then you can be an instructor for individual dances or partner dances.

Music and dance just go together. It is hard to imagine a famous show, like the Blue Danube, being performed without the music. It is only logical that both dance and music evolved as musicians started to compose their symphonies or rhapsodies in a way that allowed people listening to the music to move with it. Such movements included dipping, gliding and swaying in such a way that seems suitable to the listener. Only after the music was composed were fixed sets of moves for a dance decided upon. This enabled the development of many dance forms.

If you did not dance to music, you would be considered to be dancing to your own rhythm. For example tap dance forms do not use any music, but the tapping off the feet in a regular fashion is an astonishing and musical way to enjoy that dance form in itself.

The dance movements are supposed to relax and invigorate a person, because this sort of exercise not only gives him a pleasant workout, but also makes his body more flexible and graceful. The idea of dancing as a soothing and relaxing therapy is being used by therapists in the form of dance movement and dance therapy for better muscular coordination.

So whatever the reason may be, if the music is provocative enough to make you want to get up and dance, go for it! - 2361
