Beaches, Bars, Restaurants And Apartments Los Cristianos

By Lorenzo Jacabo

The Island of Tenerife is the largest in the Canary Island Chain, as such it is a popular holiday spot and apartments in Los Cristianos offer the visitor a more laid-back holiday. It is situated close to Playa de las Americas, a vibrant, lively, large resort, but far enough away to offer the vacationer a more peaceful experience.

This is a popular holiday resort situated in a sheltered cove on the south-west of the island of Tenerife, close to the glitzy playground of Playa de las Americas. Los cristianos was once a sleepy fishing village, and although it has been transformed into a modern-day resort, still maintains some of its traditional charms.

This resort is situated in a sheltered bay and still has a working harbor. The harbor is surrounded by shops, hotels and apartments and is fronted by a square. The promenade stretches all the way across and reaches as far as Playa de las Americas.

The old town forms part of the harbor and the main street is for pedestrians only, many local people still live here. The best beach is close by and Playa de las Vistas is a man-made beach which has been constructed with sand from the Sahara dessert. Los cristianos is far more sedate than the boisterous las Americas, but access to this resort is just a short taxi drive away if you want to spice up your night life.

Duty free (or low duty) shopping is one of the many pleasures of visiting Tenerife. Souvenir hunters enjoy taking cultured pearls back home from the island as well as hand crafted goods. There are also a large variety of shops where cameras, tobacco, electrical goods, designer clothes and perfume can be found at cheaper prices.

The San Eugene center is a shoppers paradise and you will find plenty of British brand names here. There is also a street market held in Los Cristianos on a Sunday and this is popular with shoppers who enjoy a good haggle to get a bargain.

Virtually every taste in cuisine is catered for at the many restaurants, pubs, and bistros in Los Cristianos. They also offer some entertainment of an evening, but for the more exciting night life, a visit to Playa de las Americas, or the Capital, Palma is required. - 2361
