About The XBOX 360

By Daniel Thompson

There was once a heavy battle staged by 3 thriving consoles and Microsoft's XBOX was among them aiming to capture the gaming market and attract gamers to their powerful system. With the competition becoming even fiercer, Microsoft decided to develop the XBOX's successor the XBOX 360 and released it to the world late 2005.

In response Microsoft?s two main competitors also launched their own consoles to rival with the Xbox 360 that had basically built on to the original Xbox making use of the same powerful gaming engine. Game developers can now produce games that keep players entertained for untold hours with the excellent graphics and fascinating realism. Because of the newer console the Xbox 360 has taken gaming to a new level. Despite the launch of the new consoles by Nintendo and Sony, the Xbox 360 continues to ride the wave of success by generating new sales every day, both for the console itself as well as the games.

When Microsoft developed and released their entry version called the Core, it went on sale for four hundred dollars. It was followed by the next version, Arcade, which encountered a few problems here and there. Following that version came the Pro which came equipped with a hard drive as well. But Microsoft has not been idle and has continually striven to improve their consoles by not only increasing capacity but also by upgrading the hardware, which has resulted in the elimination of both heating and noise problems.

The XBOX 360 "Elite" version is the most expensive of the bunch and comes equipped with a 120 GB hard drive and sports a nice matte black finish with matching headset. Unlike the lower models, the Elite comes with an HDMI 1.2 cable to allow games to be played in full 1080p. Gamers who bought non-Elite versions must purchase a cable separately and that can be costly.

All of the models are capable of playing XBOX 360 games that can be found in stores so choosing the least expensive model shouldn't leave you out. Each configuration also includes a composite cable for standard play and a 1-month Gold trial, Silver XBOX Live membership for online play.

Manufactured by IBM the Xbox 360 come equipped with a Tri-Core CPU. Microsoft also makes use of an ATI chip which is not the one they used in the older systems. With these new features games have taken on a quality unseen before.

The Xbox 360 can also play CDs and DVDs besides games, which, thanks to the way they are formatted can fit on one single disc. This all serves to make the Xbox 360 very useful indeed. Microsoft no longer includes the external HD-DVD because it was discontinued.

As already mentioned the Xbox 360 is a Microsoft development and because Microsoft is so closely linked with computers it is not at all surprising that many of the games for the Xbox 360 can also run on yr computer, and vice-versa. Whereas serious game enthusiasts will appreciate this console so will casual less ardent players as well. Thanks to this all gamers are more able to increase their own gaming library. - 2361
