How To Make the Most of your Piano Practice

By Bryan Smith

If you are taking piano lessons then you want to make sure you make the most of your piano practice. It is costing you money to take these lessons and you should make sure that you are getting the best value for the money.

Your time is very valuable as well and you do not want to waste it by not getting everything you can out of each lesson. Here are a few tips you can keep in mind while you are practicing the piano that will help you get more out of each lesson and make it more valuable.

If you have a firm idea of why you are sitting at the piano and what you want to get out of it you will be much better equipped to stay involved in your lessons for the long run. A person only falls off the rails if they do not have a strong idea of their goal and why they are putting in the time doing their tasks.

All of the piano practice must amount to something in the end, and if you are not quite sure what it is then you will be lost and more apt to quit. Motivation is a key factor to make the most out of your piano practice.

Another thing to keep in mind is you need to be practicing material that is at your level. If you go too far ahead you will feel so confused that you will stop and not carry on. Likewise, if you practice piano music that is too easy you will get bored very quickly and be more inclined to give up. You need to practice material that matches the level you are currently at to make the most of your piano lessons.

Something that a lot of beginners do is try to play the music piece too quickly. They have no idea what their fingers are supposed to be doing but go ahead and practice a song in the same speed they hear it being played.

This is the wrong way to go about it because the song must be learned slowly at first and then gradually given more speed. This is how to improve your confidence level on the piano as well. Just take it slowly any time a new concept is introduced and then gradually speed it up. You will see a tremendous difference in the sound of your music if you do this.

When you take your piano lessons have a goal in mind that you are striving to reach with every lesson. Keep it real to you and always remember it and you will be much less likely to feel like quitting. Practice only what you are able and do not try to rush the music. Using these pointers will help you make the most of your piano practice and help you increase your skills much faster. - 2361
